“We recognise that our operation is driven by the needs of our customers – we use research to better understand  what those needs are, we deliver against them using innovation and technology and we measure ourselves against customer feedback.

On the occasion of Athens International Airport’s award, Athens International Airport CEO, Dr Yiannis Paraschis, said: “We are very pleased and indeed honoured that Athens International Airport has been distinguished within the framework of the Air Transport News Awards as the Airport of the Year in the category of 10-30 million passengers. I would like to sincerely thank Air Transport News readers and the Jury for their votes. 2014 has been a year of spectacular traffic development for our airport, which demonstrated an increase of +21.2 %, within a very critical economic and political situation in Greece.

During the recent years marked by the Greek macroeconomic crisis, AIA has managed to address significant market challenges, protect its business model and continue to deliver substantial value to all stakeholders and the Greek economy. Targeted efforts towards incentivizing traffic development and enhancing Athens’ attractiveness as a tourist destination, have been key to that end. We believe that what makes an organisation capable of weathering a storm and come out even more efficient and effective, is clearly the ability of its human capital to continuously change and adapt. The Air Transport News Award is yet another recognition for the people of AIA and the Airport Community at large.”

“Winning the Air Transport News Airport of the Year award is particularly meaningful as it was decided by the passengers that use our airport. It is a clear indication that our continued investment in creating an efficient and memorable passenger experience at Dubai International is delivering a service that ensures we remain the global hub of choice for travellers globally,” Paul Griffiths, CEO, Dubai Airports.

“This year, ICAO for the first time had two female candidates running for the post of the Secretary General. I was honored and privileged to be the runner up. Through my campaign, I visited many member states in many regions and it gave me the privilege to learn great deal about the challenges that face the aviation sector, but the greatest lesson of all was that aviation is a small community and we are aware of the common concerns. We grief together when we hear about accidents or disaster and we celebrate together when we innovate or reach common solutions. But one common issue is how to be part of the development of this industry to make it grow in a safe and sustainable manner. ” said accepting the Woman of the Year award, Capt. Aysha Alhamili
